Current Events Simulation: Country – Foreign Relations Research
Your Country Name: Egypt
Indicate your relationship with and attitude toward each of the other countries below (don’t do yourself, obviously).
Are you close allies? neutral/friendly? unfriendly or outright enemies?
Note any significant (since WWII) treaties, wars, or other confrontations that may affect how you will act in the sim.

1. Britain
Strong Relationship and share mutual goal. Largest foreign investor in Egypt estimated at 10 billion.
2. China
Trying to become better allies with China. Traveling and tourist visits multiplied under Mubarak’s rule. Mubarak and Zemin signed a joint statement establishing cooperation relations in 1999.
3. France
Diplomatic Relations free trade back and forth. Among top five investors in Egypt. Friendly.
4. Germany
Diplomatic Relations free trade back and forth. Egypt is Germany’s third largest trade partner in the Arab region.
5. Iran
Severed all official ties in 1979. Critical as Iran’s Nuclear program. January 2009 Ahmadinejad said Egypt was “a partner in crimes in Gaza” with west because they failed to support Palestine against Israel. Arrested 42 members of Iranian-backed Hezbollah against targets in Egypt. Larijani of Iran said relations with Egypt constitutes one of Iran’s fundamental foreign policy goals.
6. Israel
Camp David Accords. Resolution of the Israeli-Palestine conflict. One of the few Arab countries that is friends with Israel. Mad because of refugees coming into Egypt.
7. Pakistan
Neutral with Pakistan.
8. Russia
Trying to become better friends with Russia. Not allies.
9. Saudi Arabia
Officially Allies in Arab League. Big trading partner. Renewed formal ties in 1987. Similar beliefs on Muslim Culture.
10. Syria
Officially Allies in Arab League. Reestablished full diplomatic relations in 1989.
11. Turkey
Share a common goal in region based on regional and global peace and stability. Neutral allies.
12. United States
Allies with United States. Shared mutual interest in Middle East. US helping Egypt’s military modernize. One of the United States only allies in the Middle East.
